Multiplication Math Fact Practice for Kids

Game-Based Practice for Multiplication Time4MathFacts
Learning multiplication facts no longer has to be a frustrating experience for young learners. With the right approach students can master this important skill which will help them easily grasp more complex concepts in the future.

With Time4MathFacts students can practice their multiplication facts through gameplay. Our program provides them with engaging multiplication facts activities that will challenge them and boost their confidence.

The following information will give you a better understanding on how you can help your child practice multiplication facts and give them the support they need.

What Is A Multiplication Fact?

A multiplication fact is the product of two specific numbers. And the order in which the numbers are presented does not change the product. For example, 2×3=6 and 3×2=6.

Nowadays, multiplication facts are often taught as fact families with their opposite operation, division. For example, a student would learn a trio of numbers, like 2, 3, and 6, and know that 2×3=6, 3×2=6, 6/2=3, and 6/3=2. Regardless of how multiplication facts are taught, they are only learned through practice, and there are many resources that can help your child become fluent in multiplication.

How To Teach Multiplication Facts at Home

Children typically begin learning multiplication math facts in second or third grade. By this time, children have already learned about arrays (columns and rows of pictures or numbers to represent multiplication) and have memorized how to “count by” numbers like 2 and 5.

Despite recommended grade levels, some kids take longer to become fluent with addition and subtraction while others sail through addition and subtraction and can begin to learn multiplication facts much earlier. As with all learning, the right time to introduce multiplication depends on the student.

While there may be various methods to successfully teach multiplication math facts, you should keep the following steps top of mind:

  • STEP 1: Build on What Your Child Knows – Teach your child that multiplication is simply repeated addition. For example, your child knows that 2+2=4. Show your child that 2+2+2=6 and then share that this is the same as 2×3=6. If your child knows how to count by 2’s, show your child how that sequence relates to the 2’s multiplication facts.
  • STEP 2: Break Learning into Chunks – Prevent your child from being overwhelmed by teaching your child only a part of the multiplication table at a time. Start with the “easier” math facts. For example, teach the Zero Property of multiplication and multiples of zero. Then move onto the Identity Property and the multiples of one. You know your child best; maybe learning just a few facts at a time is even better.
  • STEP 3: Use Visuals and Manipulatives – Give your child extra support through visuals like the multiplication table, arrays, diagrams, or fact families arranged in a triangle. Find objects that can be arranged in arrays or use real-world examples where multiplication can be “seen” (i.e., an egg carton).
  • STEP 4: Teach Tricks for Tricky Facts – You want your child to be fluent with multiplication facts, but sometimes certain facts are troublesome. Consider using the doubles facts your child knows to teach doubles plus one or doubles plus two. Have your child create jingles for multiplication facts that are particularly problematic. For example, “Eight and seven pick up sticks; eight times seven is fifty-six.”
  • STEP 5: Practice, Practice, Practice – Spend a little time each day doing multiplication practice, focusing on the ones your child doesn’t know. Teach the Commutative Property by telling your child that knowing 2×3 means also knowing 3×2. When your child has memorized multiplication facts fairly well, begin to mix them up more to build fluency.
  • STEP 6: Make Multiplication Facts Practice Fun – Multiplication practice doesn’t have to be boring. While some kids do very well with flashcards, there are other ways. Simply throwing the flashcards on the floor and having them jump on them makes study time more enjoyable. Play catch or shoot hoops between each fact, set up a game of Math War (using two cards multiplied together instead of just one), or find multiplication math facts games online. Get creative and have fun!

Multiplication Fact Practice Games

All the multiplication facts activities on Time4MathFacts are designed to provide students with serious amounts of practice. And because our games are highly engaging and fun, students are motivated to continue practicing their multiplication facts until they reach mastery.

Our multiplication facts games don’t just provide tons of practice, but they adapt based on the student’s progress to deliver appropriate “smart practice” that then turns known facts into fluent facts.

Some of the games you can expect to see on Time4MathFacts include:

  • Wind Rider: This game is unlocked when new students log in for the first time. Here students can use multiplication math facts to puff up a hot air balloon and ride through the sky before the sun sets while also steering clear of obstacles.
  • Ninja to the Stars: This the second of the only two games unlocked to new students when they first log in. Students will need to show their mastery of multiplication facts before they can unlock additional games.
  • Blok Bot: Once students reach certain speed and accuracy with their multiplication facts this game will be unlocked. Just like the other games, students are presented with custom practice that meets them at the level they are at.
  • Quick Slither: This is another fun game that helps students increase their confidence and fluency in multiplication facts once it becomes unlocked. Don’t worry if your child likes to switch games often. The entire program adapts so your child gets what they need from any of the games available.

How Time4MathFacts Helps With Learning Multiplication Facts

One of the most successful ways to make learning multiplication facts fun is through multiplication fluency games. With Time4MathFacts students can systematically learn and practice multiplication facts in an enjoyable way. Our innovative technology is flexible and adaptable that works for students with different learning needs and goals.

Many families are using Time4MathFacts in their homeschool or as a supplemental resource to provide high quality math fact practice for their children.

Here are some reasons why Time4MathFacts’ multiplication fluency games may be right for your family:

  1. Fun Rewards: During multiplication math facts practice, kids receive confidence-building feedback and earn tokens to keep them engaged and motivated. Then they can shop at the store to purchase upgrades and accessories for their avatars or decorations for their progress trees. Parents can also print achievement certificates to hang on the refrigerator.
  2. Customized, Individualized Learning: Time4MathFacts’ multiplication facts games base introduction of new facts, repetition and coaching, and achievements of mastery on your child’s performance. This means your child is not bored practicing facts that are already known and is not too challenged so that your child gets frustrated.
  3. Progress Monitoring: As parents, you want to know how quickly and how well your child is mastering math facts in multiplication. With Time4MathFacts, you can easily check fluency and usage through automatically generated reports, and you can even track which facts are mastered and which facts need more practice. As a result, you don’t need to guess about your child’s efforts and successes, or where to offer additional support. Time4MathFacts does it all for you!
  4. Video Game Style Activities: Time4MathFacts provides fun, animated characters in quick-paced, video-game style practice sessions that engage students. At the same time, our program knows the best facts to use in the games for each individual child.
